Tweesecake. Condensing the Number of Mentions in a Mastodon Session.

The purpose of this very small set of JAWS scripts is to minimise the number of mentions spoken when using the Tweesecake application's primary window in a Mastodon session. The scripts were developed for my own use and have been tested with Windows10 and Windows11. You are very welcome to use them if you wish.
Maybe at some point in the future they will not be necessary and they can just be thrown away.

For the avoidance of doubt, these scripts do not function with global hotkeys.

It should be stated that there is no obligation to use these scripts. By definition as an application developed for blind people, there is theoretically no need for such scripts. However, to repeat, they cause JAWS to remove the number of mentions spoken as you move through the list of Toots in the List View. Rather than JAWS saying "@Alice @Ben @Catherine @Damian I hope this Toot is good", it would say "@Alice I hope this Toot is good, 4 mentions".

Should you wish to examine the Toot as it was originally composed, you can press JAWS Key+Up Arrow or ALT+V.

A sound will play when you are at the top or bottom of the list.
Braille support is included.

You should also find that, following the use of the AutoComplete feature, focus is placed at the end of the composed message and a space character entered.

Setup and Notes.

There is no guarantee as to when these scripts will be updated. If you no longer wish to use them, or if for any reason they do not function as intended, just remove the files from the location described below. No harm done. Everything will return to normal.

It is suggested that in Tweesecake's options, you disable "Send longer items directly to the screen reader when navigating in the GUI". JAWS will capture the full message anyway despite this feature being disabled. This can be found under the General category. If this is enabled, it would seem that there is a JAWS event which does not consistently fire which would mean on some occasions the necessary logic for removal of the mentioned names will not be processed.

The following notes describe how to locate your JAWS Settings/ENU folder where all your JAWS scripts live. This will allow you to place the JAWS scripts into the required location in order that the screen-reader can use them.

1. First of all, download the zipped archive of the scripts here.
2. If you are using the standard unzip utility for Windows, pressing Enter will open up this file.
3. Press Control+A so as to select the contents of the entire zipped archive.
4. Press Control+C to copy the contents of the zipped archive to the Windows clipboard.
5. Press Insert+J to move to the JAWS window.
6. Press ALT+U for the Utilities menu.
7. Locate the item, Explore Utilities Folder, found on the Utilities menu and press Enter.
Alternatively, press the shortcut key, letter X.
8. From the list of folders which appears, select, Explore My Settings and press Enter.
9. This is the folder you need to place the scripts into. Press Control+V to paste the content of the zipped archive into this folder. If Windows prompts you as to whether files should be replaced, press the Space Bar on the Replace All Button.
10. Finally, press ALT+F4 to close the Settings/ENU screen.
